The problem SpanishPal solves
I studied Spanish for years. I used Duolingo. I took classes. I did Pimsleur in the car. I reached the point where I could read a Spanish menu without Google Translate and understand the gist of a telenovela episode with subtitles.
Then I would be at a restaurant, or talking to a friend’s family, or on a trip to Mexico — and a real person would speak Spanish to me at normal speed, not classroom Spanish, and I would go blank. I would respond in English, or mumble something approximate, or worse, smile and nod. All that vocabulary I had studied just… stopped being accessible.
After talking to many other people about this, I realized this is not a rare experience. It is the default outcome of every popular Spanish-learning app. Duolingo, Babbel, Pimsleur — they all teach you to recognize Spanish. None of them actually make you speak it in an unpredictable, real-time back-and-forth.
That is the gap SpanishPal is designed to fill. You hold a mic button, say something in Spanish, and Elena — an AI tutor — responds in Spanish. The exchange is real. It is unpredictable. You have to produce language from nothing, in response to something you did not know was coming. That is the skill that Duolingo never practices. That is what SpanishPal practices.
About the app
SpanishPal: AI Conversation Tutor is an iOS app published by Migdio Media LLC. Elena, the AI tutor, runs on Claude (Anthropic’s AI model) via a Supabase Edge Function — your conversations are processed by Anthropic’s systems to generate Elena’s responses. Speech recognition uses Deepgram. Voice output uses OpenAI TTS. Your conversations are sent to these third-party services as described in the Privacy Policy.
Dialect selection is set in onboarding: Mexican Spanish, neutral Latin American, or Spain Spanish. Elena adapts her vocabulary, slang, and cultural references based on your selection. She corrects your mistakes gently, in-context, without interrupting the conversational flow.
SpanishPal is subscription-based: $12.99/month billed immediately (no trial) or $79.99/year with a 7-day free trial. iOS and Android.
Transparency on content
Every guide on this site is written by the SpanishPal founder. Where competitors are named, their strengths are noted honestly — SpanishPal is not the right tool for complete beginners, for people who want gamification, or for people who want a structured curriculum. Those things are true and you deserve to know them before making a purchasing decision.
No fabricated statistics appear on this site. Where specific numbers are cited, the source is named. Where the evidence is qualitative, the claim is stated qualitatively. The standard I hold myself to: any claim on this site should survive a fact-check.
